Press Release: Closure of Two Arizona Hospitals – Gilbert Hospital & Florence Hospital at Anthem

PRESS RELEASE

PHOENIX (June 19, 2018) ā€“ Two Arizona medical centers, Gilbert Hospital, 5656 S. Power Rd., Gilbert, Ariz., and Florence Hospital at Anthem, 4545 N. Hunt Hwy., Florence, Ariz., closed their doors permanently on Friday, June 15.

The decision comes as the hospitals have encountered prolonged financial hardship, culminating in the announcement of involuntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late May. This was the second time the hospitals had faced bankruptcy since 2014.

The Superior Court of the State of Arizona, Maricopa County, appointed Resolute Commercial, by and through Jeremiah Foster, as Receiver on the hospitals on June 7, 2018. Mr. Foster has stated that financial and operational issues facing the facilities were simply too significant to overcome, despite best efforts to secure sustainable financing.

All current patients of the hospitals have been, or will be, discharged from care or safely transferred to another health care facility.

ā€œIā€™d like to stress that patient care was never in jeopardy, but the ability to sustain the minimum level of operations was simply too great of a financial burden moving forward,ā€ Foster said.

Foster noted that the emergency room will be closed for operations at Gilbert and Florence Hospital at Anthem effective immediately. Existing patients who have not already been transferred or discharged will continue to receive care until they are able to be discharged or safely transferred. Patient and ambulance services are encouraged to research nearby medical treatment facilities.
